Graz Schumpeter Lectures
The Graz Schumpeter Society organizes this annual conference series in which internationally renowned scientists give lectures. The lectures are named after one of the great economists and social scientists of this century, Joseph Alois Schumpeter (1883-1950), who was a member of the University of Graz from 1911 to 1920.
The lectures of each conference will be published in the series "The Graz Schumpeter Lectures" by Routledge (London).

The latest Graz Schumpeter Lectures took place from November 20 to 23, 2023. The lecturer was the renowned economist Prof. Kaushik Basu.
About the speaker
Kaushik Basu is an Indian economist who was Chief Economist at the World Bank from 2012 to 2016. He is Professor of International Studies and Economics at Cornell University. He has been President of the International Economic Association since June 2017. From 2009 to 2012, during the second term of the United Progressive Alliance, Basu served as Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.
In 1992, he founded the Center for Development Economics at the Delhi School of Economics, of which he was the first Director until 1996. Basu was President of the Human Development and Capabilities Association founded by Amartya Sen. He is the editor of Social Choice and Welfare.
His numerous books include "Beyond the Invisible Hand. Groundwork for a New Economics" (Princeton University Press 2010) and "Choice, welfare, and development: a festschrift in honor of Amartya K. Sen" (together with Suzumura, Kotaro; Pattanaik, Prasanta (1995), Clarendon Press Oxford University Press) as well as "The Republic of Beliefs" (Princeton University Press, 2018).
